Grillin’ in December

When we bought our house, the last owners were very generous and left us many things that they were not going to use anymore at their new much smaller place. We also bought a few things off of them as well, one of which was a grill. We got a deal when we bought stuff off of them and it worked out for everyone involved. We had not really had much time to think about grilling since we had moved in and Sean isn’t really much of a winter griller. My mom, dad and brothers would grill all year long at our house so the past weekend it was warmer out, I encouraged Sean to try out the grill. We got it uncovered and Sean insisted upon cleaning it first.

I had the meat ready to go but Sean pulled out something that they had left us that he was determined to try out. Since it was cold, it was fantastic. He pulled out the Brookstone Wireless Thermometer with Remote Alert Talking so we could tell when the meat was done without standing outside watching the meat. It seemed to work really well and the meat was moist inside.

Our grilling experience turned out pretty awesome. Hopefully now I can get Sean to try grilling out a few more times throughout this winter!

 

The Man of the House has a birthday!

So the Man of the House had a birthday this past weekend and I got the opportunity to make him his first birthday cake. In the five years of dating him we never had the opportunity to spend his birthday together because it was during Christmas break when we were at school and after that we always spent New Year’s together.

I had found this cake a few months ago on Pinterest and tried to think of a good occasion for me to create this masterpiece. I was a little leery at first because there were many parts to making the cake but I figured I would give it a shot.

First you have to make the cake. The recipe that I used here was for an eggless cake. This made me nervous but it turned out awesome and the taste test I did of the scraps on the bottom were very good. The recipe makes two 9 inch round cakes.

 

After letting the cakes cool, I had to make the fudge that goes in the middle and on top of the cake. It was a peanut butter chocolate fudge and for the top part you mix in Reese’s.

 

Once the fudge was smeared in the middle and all over the top of the cake, I put it in the refrigerator so the fudge could harden.

Next up was to make the icing on and decorate. The icing was incredibly sweet and very peanut buttery.

The best part about creating something like this….getting to eat it!

After dinner out we came back to the house for some cake. Everyone really enjoyed it but I am very glad that I purchased a gallon of milk to drink with this cake because it was so sweet. It was like one giant Reese’s cup! Awesome for the peanut butter chocolate lovers!

Next up, the holiday season! I can’t wait!

Our Outdoor Friends

When we moved in to our new house, I quickly noticed that there was a lot of deer. We had groups of them that would show up in the yard every afternoon. Luckily I have caught a few of them on camera.

This is the biggest one that has showed up in the yard. He comes very close to the house as well.

The is picture, the deer is actually in our landscaping on the back side of the patio. The day I took this picture he spent about 45 minutes hanging out back there. I couldn’t believe that I didn’t scare him off because I was fixing dinner during that time period.

This last picture I actually took just yesterday. This was the largest group that I had seen out in the front yard. They were all staring at me because I actually walked out the front door to take this picture. They took off as soon as I went inside.

For all of my hunting friends back home, no we are not going to shoot any of them.
