30 Before 30 – Month 8

1. Run a 5k. – Paws for Life 5K and Sean’s first 5K. He kicked my butt big time.  You can see more here.

6. Cook something new each month. The month of May was another busy month and lots of traveling. We did try soft-shell crabs on the grill. We did scallops on the grill as well. Sean, I think, actually gets this one for the month because he made a soft-shell crab quesadilla. I will have to put that recipe up soon, just so he doesn’t forget how he made it.

28. Pay for someone’s order in the drive thru. Done.

Hopefully more to come in the summer months.

Sean’s First 5k

Mothers’ Day weekend. Well that was a couple of weeks ago and the time has flown since.

We started the weekend off with heading to the first weekend at the boat. Always a wonderful time but this time included a lot of work. Loading the boat with all of those items we had taken off for the winter months, cleaning teak, and just cleaning in general.

Friday night we had dinner at the restaurant up on the hill from the boat yard. It was such a pretty night and all of the lights on the docks. It made it feel like summer had already arrived. It was a lovely feeling.Untitled

Since we are a little on the crazy side, we decided that we were going to run a 5K bright and early on Saturday morning. I ran this same race last year but had two others join me this year. The mister and his brother. I shaved a little time off by finishing in 35:01 this year. The mister kicked my booty. He finished in 28 something. (He couldn’t remember….)UntitledFor his first 5K I was super proud of him. There was no way I could finish that fast. I think he took superhuman powers that morning for breakfast or something.

The rest of the weekend was super busy and I was super lazy. We cleaned up parts of the boat and then finished the weekend off by taking Sean’s mom out for Mothers’ Day. It was a really nice day.

New Jersey for a weekend

Two weekends ago we were off traveling again. I am starting to think we spend more weekends away than we actually spend at home. And currently we have no plans of stopping the travel.
While in New Jersey we had the opportunity to spend lots of time with family.

We started off by walking around a place that meant a lot to the family and a place that I had never seen before. It was a very enjoyable visit and a neat place to see.

Sunday we went to the baptism of Sean’s cousin’s son. He was born back in October when we went up to see them. He came a little sooner than expected but he is doing very well and is a very cute little guy. I love this picture of Sean’s mom with the baby. She loves being around him and playing with him. Big sister did a great job too and we enjoyed spending time with her at the petting zoo that visited her house after the baptism. She was super excited to ride the pony, Duchess. UntitledUntitledUntitledOverall it was a great weekend. A short weekend but a great weekend. Don’t worry you won’t have to wait long to hear about more weekend travels.

Mothers’ Day

Today we spent the day with my Mother-in-Law. We had a great day spraying weeds, giving her flowers and cards, and taking her out to dinner. It was a great day and I really enjoyed spending the time with her. She is absolutely wonderful and I am very lucky to have such a great Mother-in-law.

In the back of my mind all day though were my mom and both of my grandmothers.

Mom worked all day today and only got to see one kid for a little while last night. We live all over the place but the bond that she helped to create with out family always makes me feel like we are close together. She is such a wonderful example of what a Mother should be and I can only hope that I turn out to be half the mom she is, someday. She has been extremely supportive, a great taxi driver, a even better chef and a great friend. The over 600 miles that we live apart seem shorter when we talk on the phone and I can’t go for more than a couple of days without talking to her. I can’t wait to talk to her tomorrow since she was at work all day today.

My mom’s mom and I spent a lot of time together when I was growing up but especially when I was in high school. I would go over to their house almost every day during my junior and part of my senior year before going to practice or games. I loved it. She would cut my finger nails, fix me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. help me study for tests or we would sit and talk. I loved that time with her and it really is some of the best memories I have with her. I missed seeing her today even though I did get to talk with her it isn’t the same as being with her.

My dad’s mom and I were also very close. I was the only grandchild until my little brother was born and I was completely spoiled. Whether it was making cookies or spending days with her at their house while mom and dad worked, a fun time was had by all. Twenty-two years ago today we lost her. Not one May 10th goes by without me crying because I miss her. Even harder this year is that is Mothers’ Day.  She was patient, kind, friendly, and a great grandmother.

To Mom and Grandma, Happy Mothers’ Day! Love you both so much and can’t wait to see you soon.
