Super Fun Night on the Back Patio

While the whole weekend with my mom and dad was a lot of fun, Sunday night for some reason was one of my all  time favorites!

After two days of running around, we spent a good portion of the day at our house. Sean watched some Ravens football, I snuck in a short nap, and we got some landscaping help from my father and mother which was unexpected and completely awesome!

We started the night off by trying something that we can all mark off of our bucket list. We shucked oysters in our backyard and then grilled them similarly to the way that Sean and I had them in New Orleans. They were really good and my mom and dad even liked them.

We all took our turn at trying to shuck oysters. Let’s just say that it is easier to say you can shuck oysters then it is to actually do it. It definitely took some work and some finesse. But we all got the hang of it after a couple.

We had the fire going while we worked on shucking the oysters (which did take a while to do), and I found a dud. DSCN4480DSCN4490

Next up on the menu was something I had been wanting to try for a while but needed the right occasion to try. Bacon Wrapped Mushrooms. Simply wrapped the mushrooms in bacon, put them on skewers and put them on the grill. We did decide to dip them in Sweet Chili Sauce, which was an awesome decision!DSCN4493DSCN4494DSCN4495DSCN4496

As you can see we cleaned up the oysters with no problem! Last up was Flank Steak Rollups. We cut up carrots, green peppers, red peppers and onions and rolled them up in thinly slicked flank steak. Drizzled Balsamic Vinaigrette over them and voila! Wonderful finish to the meal.We were supposed to fix dessert but we were so full that didn’t quite happen!  DSCN4500DSCN4501DSCN4506

I was also very excited as I got to use one of my birthday gifts from my mom and dad! Wine glasses to go. Let’s talk about convenience and I won’t ever spill my wine or break a glass when sitting outside on the patio. DSCN4477

So much fun and I only hope that we can do it again sometime with them!
