The 4th in Iowa

This was the first trip that we took to see my little brother as he doesn’t get time off during the summer. We met up with family from Indiana and California for a large family gathering with family from both sides of the family. It was awesome to see everyone in one place and have so many people there for Guyon to hang out with.

We visited the Science Museum, the John Deere Pavilion, Antique Architecture(the store from American Pickers) and Modern Woodman Park. We had a special visit to the ballpark due to my brother being the head groundskeeper. We enjoyed the suite at the ballgames.

The first ballgame we attended, Sean and several of the cousins did a race in between innings. The second game featured my cousin and I sumo wrestling in between innings. It also featured both of the boys tending to the field at the same time. Sam dragged and Andrew raked.

Here are just a few pictures from the visit.

Next up was Guyon’s first visit to Purdue and West Lafayette.

Summer Adventure at the Parks

This summer the Harford County Parks department did a Summer Challenge. Each time you visited one of the parks, you were to take a selfie and submit it online. At 7, we got t-shirts, at 11 we were entered in a drawing for a Pontoon boat ride and at 15 we were entered in a drawing for a year membership to the science museum. We accomplished 16! Here are the photos of our visits.

Quilts of the Summer

This summer, miraculously, I found time to create a couple of new quilts for friends. We knew one of the babies was going to be a boy and that his room would be a Harry Potter theme. I found some ideas on Pinterest and thought that I would try those. I had collected HP fabric for a while thinking that I would do one with lots of different fabrics but quickly realized I wanted to do something a little more challenging. These are what I turned out in a short amount of time.

The first one did not turn out as good as I was hoping but it turned out ok. It was a little buckled in places and not square. UGH!

The second one turned out awesome. It was a little easier than I thought it was going to be.

The third quilt I did was not originally intended for the family it was sent to this summer. I started for someone else and quickly realized they were not going to appreciate all of the work that went into this quilt. I was so happy that this one found a home and a home that it was greatly appreciated by the recipient. I can’t wait to see pictures of little Josh with this quilt.

This quilt was super challenging because of how I decided to put it together. I didn’t think it would take as much time as it did either. I will say I learned a lot from this quilt though and I am happy that I completed one that was so challenging to me.

The Plumpton Park Zoo

Sean had been really wanting to visit this zoo and we were happy to fit a visit in this summer. It was fun for me to see a place that he visited and went to camp when he was little.

Guyon loved seeing some of the animals and being able to get so close. It was also a great way to kick off Farm Week. Here are just a few of the photos from our visit there.
